The Frida Khalo exhibition at The Palais Galliera

Running at the Palais Galliera until March 5th, 2023, the exhibition “Frida Khalo, au delà des apparences” is an opportunity to discover or rediscover one of the 20th century’s most influential artists.

Recognized worldwide for her moving works and many self-portraits, this Mexican artist as a child aspired to be a doctor.

A serious accident with significant long-term consequences put an end to this dream when she was just 18. She turned to painting and some 150 works, including 55 self-portraits, followed.

Committed to the fight for women’s rights and their emancipation, particularly her fellow Mexicans, Frida Khalo was ahead of her time, daring to openly assume her bisexuality.

Some 200 objects from “Casa Azul”, the house in which Frida grew up, are exposed at the exhibition.

In partnership with the Museo Frida Khalo in Mexico, clothes, letters, accessories, cosmetics and even artificial limbs allow visitors to better understand the artist and her works.

A fringe exhibition from September 15th to December 31st 2022 highlights the artist’s influence on contemporary fashion and the biggest names in fashion such as Jean Paul Gaultier, Alexander McQueen or Rei Kawakubo.

A must see.
