The Général Leclerc district is located in the south-western part of Levallois-Perret Municipality. To the east, its boundary is marked by Rue du Président Wilson, which separates it from the Alsace and Jean-Zay neighbourhoods. Rue Paul-Vaillant-Couturier is used as a boundary with the Front-de-Seine district in the northern part. To the west, one only has to cross rue de Villiers to reach Neuilly-sur-Seine. Finally, Rue Jacques-Ibert marks the southern boundary.

History

In the past, the entire Levallois-Perret town was a rarely visited hunting area. Its history was, moreover, assimilated to that of Clichy (located to the east of the village), because it was incorporated into it. Around 1845, the owner Étienne Noël entrusted his land to Nicolas Eugène Levallois, who began to make plans for the future village that Levallois-Perret would become. From that moment on, thanks to the will of some inhabitants, the place thrived at a very high speed, so that on June 30, 1866, Napoleon III promulgated a law for creating the city.
The name of this neighbourhood comes from Philippe Leclerc de Hauteclocque, a French general who took part in France’s liberation, particularly Paris and Strasbourg, during the Second World War. In the neighbourhood, there is even a square constructed in his name: Général Leclerc place.

Cultural sites

  • Temple de la Petite Étoile: this Protestant temple is attached to the United Protestant Church of France. It was built between 1911 and 1912 and classified as a historical monument in 1995.
  • Hôpital franco-britannique (Franco-British Hospital): this is the result of the merger in 2008 of the Hertford British Hospital and Hôpital Notre-Dame-du-Perpétuel-Secours, which until March 2019 was known as Institut hospitalier franco-britannique (Franco-British Hospital Institute). The Herford Hospital, built in a Gothic Revival style, was inaugurated in 1879. The plans drawn up by the builder, Paul-Ernest Sanson, were rewarded with a large silver medal from the Architects central company. In 1885, Madame de Vatismenil founded the association l’oeuvre du Perpétuel-Secours, which very quickly obtained the support of generous donors to construct the establishment.
