History

From the 1830s until 1974, the La Roquette district housed two prisons. La Grande Roquette, which was destroyed in 1900, and La Petite Roquette, which became a women’s prison in 1920. The latter has since been replaced by the Square de la Roquette.

  • Notre-Dame d’Espérance Church: the modern contours of this Catholic church inaugurated in 1997 are the work of Bruno Legrand and Jean-Luc Leroy. It perfectly illustrates the architectural diversity of the La Roquette district.
