Pont: neighbourhood between Neuilly and La Défense.

Pont de Neuilly (Neuilly Bridge) is located at the western end of the municipality. It is also part of Paris historical axis, which is a straight road crossing the Louvre capital to Puteaux territories. Although it is rather difficult to precisely delimit the bridge district, it is easy to know its western limit. Once on the other side of the road and railway crossing, we can immediately reach La Défense neighbourhood, located in Puteaux.

In the middle of the Seine lies Ile du Pont, a small part of which belongs to Neuilly-sur-Seine municipality. It is the area extending from the north end to Parc Lebaudy.

History

The Pont neighbourhood takes its name from the different constructions built throughout history. The first wooden bridge was built in 1606, after the fall of Henri IV carriage and Marie de Médicis. In 1772, a 219 m stone bridge was built by Jean-Rodolphe Perronet, a French engineer, whose statue stands on Île du Pont peak. At this time, the bridge entered the historical axis. The metal bridge that we know was built in 1942. It was widened 50 years later to reach La Défense.

In spite of its name as Pont neighbourhood (Bridge neighbourhood), there are actually two metal bridges. The first, 67 m long, connects Neuilly to Île de Puteaux and the second, 87 m long, is between the island and Courbevoie.
