History

La Gare Paris, which was created in 1860, is the largest district of Paris with its 304 hectares. Mainly known to Parisians for its Chinatown, it was chosen to house the Bibliothèque Nationale Française (BNF – French National Library) and a part of the Paris Rive Gauche development operation. The district of La Gare Paris takes its name from the river station that was built there from the end of the reign of Louis XV.

The site was at that time a failure of urban planning in the city of Paris and therefore offered this population new and affordable housing.
