Discover the Belleville district - Paris 20

Located in the 20th arrondissement of Paris, Belleville is the 77th administrative district of the capital. It is bordered by the streets of Belleville to the north, Pixerécourt to the east, Ménilmontant to the south and, finally, by Boulevard de Belleville to the west.

Integrated into Paris in 1860, the administrative district does not have the same limits as those of the former municipality of Belleville. The latter was larger and extended further to the north of the 20th arrondissement, and about half of the current 19th arrondissement to the south. Some streets in the 10th and 11th arrondissements were also part of the former commune.

Cultural sites

  • Rue Denoyez: near the Belleville metro station, this street is reminiscent of all urban culture having crossed the capital. First of all, you can see walls strewn with magnificent graffiti in various styles. Then you just have to walk through the doors of its many artists’ workshops and exhibition spaces to admire exceptional urban artworks.
  • Belvédère de Belleville: located near Parc de Belleville, this cultural site offers a breathtaking view of the neighbourhood’s landscape. From here, it is possible to see the Eiffel Tower, the glass roof of the Grand Palais or even Notre-Dame Cathedral.

Local landmarks

  • Parc de Belleville: this hill was originally a very active wine-growing area, which was an advantageous location for the city. Numerous taverns and guinguettes were set up at this location. Thus, the famous “piquette” was one of the wines from the Belleville vineyards. Nowadays, this pejorative term has over time become synonymous with poor quality wine, whereas in the past it was simply used to refer to a young wine. Today, the vines are a reminder of the district’s past, while the unobstructed view allows you to see many cultural sites and buildings of the capital.

  • Jardin Emmi-Pikler: On the east side, this small green space allows its visitors to contemplate a wide variety of roses.
  • Square Nouveau-Belleville: this park, located in the west of the Belleville district, has a slab with roads, green spaces and open spaces.
