History

Today’s Auteuil district is only part of the Auteuil commune that stood here before its annexation to the city of Paris in 1860. The commune was indeed suppressed and its territory divided between the commune of Boulogne and the city of Paris. Before that, the “village of Auteuil” was a peaceful corner of the countryside where artists and intellectuals liked to meet. Molière had a house there and welcomed his friends Racine, La Fontaine, Lully and La Bruyère.
