Surroundings of Rue Louis-Philippe: Entertainment and schools.

Situated in the centre of Neuilly-sur-Seine, Rue Louis-Philippe tends slightly towards the southern part of the commune, getting a little closer to Bois de Boulogne. However, Avenue Charles-de-Gaulle limits it to the south. To access the street, you have to go north via Place Winston Churchill, which can be reached via Rue d’Orléans parallel to Rue Louis-Philippe on the east side. Still to the north, the long Avenue du Roule separates them from Place Winston Churchill. The area around Rue Louis-Philippe can extend as far as Rue de l’Hôtel de Ville to the west.

History

The surroundings of Rue Louis Philippe are part of the only two districts of Neuilly-sur-Seine whose geographic boundaries are based on a street, with the surroundings of Rue des Huissiers. The division of the commune has changed several times throughout history and it is now considered that there are four large districts, themselves divided into several small islets.
The street takes its name from Louis-Philippe I, who bore the title of “King of the French” and was the last king of France between 1830 and 1848.

  • Église Saint-Pierre de Neuilly-sur-Seine : Located near Place Winston Churchill, this parish church was built between 1883 and 1914. It was officially consecrated after the First World War in 1922. In 1993, it was included in the general inventory of cultural heritage.
  • Théâtre des Sablons : This building was once a retirement home. It closed in 1981 and was bought by the city of Neuilly-sur-Seine in the 1990s.
